This week, a representative of the Consumer Product Safety Commission made surprising comments questioning the safety of popular soft wrap baby slings:
“We know of too many deaths in these slings, and we now know the hazard scenarios for very small babies,” Inez Tenenbaum, head of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, said, according to the AP. “So, the time has come to alert parents and caregivers.”
Although no particular sling was singled out, complaints have surfaced in the past couple of years about some baby carriers. Consumer Reports expressed concerns about soft fabric slings back in 2008, describing two dozen serious injuries that occurred when babies tumbled out of them.
