The rates for cesarean birth have risen drastically in the past decade and now account for 1/3 of all births in the U.S. According to a recent Yahoo Health article:
Between 1996 and 2007, the C-section rate rose by 53 percent, with similar rises seen among all age, racial and ethnic groups, according to the report released Tuesday from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics, which used birth certificate data to arrive at this conclusion.

This week, a representative of the Consumer Product Safety Commission made surprising comments questioning the safety of popular soft wrap baby slings:
“We know of too many deaths in these slings, and we now know the hazard scenarios for very small babies,” Inez Tenenbaum, head of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, said, according to the AP. “So, the time has come to alert parents and caregivers.”

According to the Defense Department’s latest demographic report, there are more than 70,500 single parents on active duty in the U.S. military – about 5 percent of all service members. Nearly half of military single parents are in the Army.
